How to delete data from your smartwatch or fitness tracker

The smartwatches and fitness trackers we wear on our wrists are designed to keep detailed records of our activities, but sometimes you may not want to record them. Whether you want to resume your fitness activities, are concerned about having too much data on your watch, or for any other reason, it's easy to delete data from your wearable device.

If you wear an Apple Watch on your wrist, any data it records will sync to the Health app on your iPhone. Most synced data and activity can be partially or completely deleted, it's just a matter of digging deeper. Open the Health app and select "Browse," select the data you want to use, and then select "Show all data.

In the upper right corner, you will see an Edit button: By clicking this button, you can delete individual entries in the list by clicking the red icon on the left. You can also delete all content immediately by clicking Edit and then clicking the Delete All button. Whether you delete a single entry or delete all entries, a confirmation prompt will be displayed to ensure that this is what you want to do.

You can also control what data is synced to Apple Watch so that certain information, such as heart rate, isn't recorded by the wearable. To manage this in the Health app, tap Summary, then click Avatar (top right), then Devices. Select your Apple Watch from the list, and then select Privacy Settings.

You can also reset your Apple Watch to the state it was in when you purchased it. This will delete all records on the device, but will not affect data synced to iPhone. On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app and select General, Reset, and Delete All Content and Settings".

Fitbit makes a number of trackers and smartwatches, but they're all controlled through Fitbit's Android or iOS apps; you can also access an online data dashboard. Many different types of information are collected, and if you tap (or click) around, you can edit or delete most of it.

For example, on the mobile app, open the "Today" tab and click on any exercise stickers you see (such as your daily walk sticker). If you then click on a single event, you can click on the three dots (top right corner) and select Delete to remove it from the entry. The sleep block is very similar:Select an individual sleep log, click on the three dots and delete the log.

On the Fitbit website, you can select "Log", then "Food", "Activity", "Weight " or "Sleep". Each entry has a trash can icon next to it that allows you to delete it, but in some cases, you may need to navigate to individual entries. Use the time navigation tool in the upper right corner to review the past.

If you still don't know how to delete something, Fitbit has a comprehensive guide:For example, you can't delete steps, but you can override them while recording non-walking activity. You can also choose to delete your account entirely, which you can access in the app's "Today" tab by clicking on your avatar, then account settings and deleting your account.

For Samsung Galaxy smartwatches, all the data you sync will be saved to the Samsung Health app for Android or iOS. You can control the information sent back to the Samsung Health app through the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone:On the home screen of your device, select Watch Settings, then Samsung Health.

Some information can be removed from Samsung Health, while others cannot. For example, for an exercise, you need to select "Exercises" in the Home tab and then select the exercise you want to delete. Click on the three dots (top right corner) and select "Delete" to confirm your selection to remove it from the post.

For sleep disorders, this is a similar process. If you click on "Sleep" in the "Home" tab, you can navigate to each night you want to use. Select it, click the three dots in the upper right corner, click "Delete", and then click "Delete" to delete it. You can also delete the food and water consumption data.

Tougher measures can be taken. You can factory reset the watch via the settings app that comes with the wearable: tap "General" and then "Reset". You can also delete personal data by clicking on the gear icon in the three rows (top right), and then delete all data from Samsung Health from the phone app.

If you have a COLMI smartwatch, you will be able to access the same data online using the Da Fit, H.FIT, H band, etc. apps on your phone. Start with a scheduled event in the mobile app, open the menu (top left for Android, bottom right for iOS) and select Events and All Events. Select the event that needs to be deleted, tap the three dot icon and select "Delete Event".

If you want to delete a custom workout (select workout, then select workout from the app menu) or weigh in (select Health Stats, then select Weight from the app menu), it's a similar process. If you want to delete something, you can click on the three dots in the upper right corner again and select "Delete". You can edit some of these entries, if that is better than deleting them altogether.
